WOODSTOCK – A fire at about 3:30 Tuesday afternoon in a house at 3207 Route 212 in Woodstock left two occupants and a cat in need of temporary shelter. They were placed in contact with the Red Cross.
When Woodstock firefighters arrived on the scene, they found smoke coming from several doors of the structure.
The occupants were outside and told firefighters the fire was in the basement. That was extinguished and the first and second floors were checked for additional fire. The basement sustained moderate to significant damage, with smoke and minor overhaul damage on the first and second floors, said Assistant Chief Patrick Rose.
The origin and cause of the fire was investigated by the Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit and determined to have been caused by “a significant electrical event” in the basement.
The Woodstock Building Department responded and determined the building non-habitable and Central Hudson Gas and Electric disconnected the electric service to the residence.
No one was reported injured.
The Woodstock Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Centerville Fire Department with a Fast Team, the West Hurley Fire Department with standby coverage and personnel on the scene, the Woodstock Police and State Police.
