STEWART AIRPORT – Orange County has submitted a formal presentation to the US Air Force in support of establishing a regional US Space Command headquarters at New York Stewart International Airport.

The county’s economic development director, William Fioravanti told the Economic Development Committee of the county legislature on Monday that Stewart checks off all boxes as a suitable location.

“We have an unmatched logistics system smack-dab in the middle of the Boston-Washington corridor, one of the most populated areas in the entire United States, about 50 million people in that area,” he said. “We have affordable real estate, we have the Air National Guard right on site, West Point. It is really hard to articulate just what an advantage it is to have West Point.”

Orange County’s relatively close proximity to New York City is another plus in the argument to locate the Space Command regional headquarters at Stewart, Fioravanti said.
