GOSHEN – Governments on all levels want their workforces to mirror the diversity of the populations they serve and in Orange County, that effort is ongoing, said Human Resources Commissioner Steven Gross.

Local government hiring is subject to state civil service law and Gross said it is important to communication the availability of jobs.

“It is very hard to hire somebody from any ethnicity if they do not apply. So, we really need to get the word out for applications to let people that the jobs are here, the jobs are out there,” he told the Personnel Committee of the county legislature on Monday.

The county does engage in an extensive community outreach and he encouraged members of the county legislature to help get the word out to their constituencies about job availabilities.
