KINGSTON – Police in the City of Kingston are investigating the reports of shots being fired in two locations within 25 minutes of each other.

This gunfire followed at least two other shooting incidents in recent days. “Unprecedented and scary” is how Mayor Steven Noble characterized the violence. “With a perfect storm of the coronavirus pandemic and the economic devastation in its wake, along with political unrest and escalating disorder across the country, our community is suffering. I am concerned and committed to restoring peace to our beloved city.”

In this latest violence, 1:14 p.m. on Thursday, the police responded to a report of shots being fired in the area of Furnace and Liberty Street.

About 25 minutes later, at 1:39 p.m., officers responded to Elmendorf Street near Belvedere Street for another reported shooting.

There were no reports of any injuries at either incident, or any property damage that was immediately located.

Police are investigating both shots fired incidents to see if they are related.

Kingston Police are being assisted by the State Police and Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call the Kingston Police Department at 845-331-1671. Those wishing to remain anonymous can leave a message on our Tipline at 845-331-4499.

Noble said Police Chief Egidio Tinti has asked for assistance from the State Police and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.

“Though this is an uncertain and unparalleled time in our city, we as a community can come together to end this violence. In order to move forward, we must hold each other accountable. Restoring and healing our community will take everyone doing their part,” Noble said.
