Fire at 1310 Boston Corners Road in North East

NORTH EAST – The Millerton Fire Company from the Town of North East battled a two-alarm fire at 1310 Boston Corners Road on Sunday that displaced two residents and destroyed most of the belongings in the residence.

The house and garage sustained substantial smoke, heat, and water damage.

Chief Jason Watson said his department was dispatched, along with the Copake and Ancram fire departments to reports of a fire at the house with an attached garage.  Upon confirmation of the fire, Chief Watson requested additional water tankers from the Wassaic Fire Department and the Lakeville Hose Company in Connecticut.  The Amenia Fire Department responded to the scene with an engine and manpower.

Firefighters battled excessive heat and humidity while working to extinguish the fire in approximately 20 minutes. “I am very proud of the efforts my department, along with all of the mutual aid companies that worked together to put the fire out,” said Chief Watson. “The heat and humidity really put a strain on the firefighters.”

Watson noted that the American Red Cross is working with the two female residents to provide assistance.  No civilians or firefighters sustained injuries in the blaze that is under investigation by the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division.

All firefighters were cleared from the scene by 6 p.m. Sunday.
