PUTNAM VALLEY – First responders have recovered the body of a Brooklyn man, who had jumped into Oscawana Lake from a pontoon boat he was in with three business partners.

The other men were unaware that Sydney Joseph, 46, had jumped in the water with a square flotation device, went under and did not resurface.

When they realized it, they called for help.

Dive teams from the Mahopac and Yorktown fire departments responded to the scene and with the use of sonar equipment attempted to locate Joseph.

The search continued Monday, June 29 when a State Police dive team with assistance from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office marine unit, recovered Joseph’s body from the lake.
