TOWN OF NEWBURGH – The Town of Newburgh Police Department has announced that they will be hosting, in conjunction with the Town of Newburgh Recreation Department and the Orange County Youth Bureau, an alternative Junior Leadership Academy.  During this academy participants will be introduced to the different aspects of police work, teamwork and team building, community service, and leadership skills with the help of police officers, community leaders, and partners.

The academy will be held in two sessions, 1 week each, from 9 AM – 2 PM.  The sessions will be divided by age, with the first session being for ages 7-11 and the second session being for ages 12-14, with a limit of 8 children, in order to be in compliance with safety guidelines.  Sessions will be held at the Town of Newburgh Police Station on Gardnertown Road. Children must be dropped off and picked up by a parent or guardian.  There is no charge to attend and all safety guidelines, as set forth by the State for COVID-19 precautions, will be met.  To assist in ensuring precautions are met, children must bring their own lunch and water bottles.  Hand sanitizer and masks will be provided if needed.  Temperatures will be taken at the door and camp administrators advise that if the camper is feeling ill please keep them home.

There is no charge to attend. Families who live in the Town of Newburgh and have not previously attended one of our Junior Police Academies will be given preference.  Applications can be obtained at the Town of Newburgh Police Department main desk or by e-mailing ageyer@townofnewburghpd.org. Completed applications must be submitted no later than July 14, 2020.  The first session will begin on Monday, July 20, 2020.  Due to the limitations put in place with spacing and group size, there may not be space for all who may be interested.

Any other requests for information may be directed to Officer Adam Geyer at the Town of Newburgh Police Department or Sgt Katherine Otero at 845-564-1100.
