“I handle some criminal matters and just about all of the civil matters in city court and I know that supreme deals primarily with civil and they can deal with cases that are significant substance and I would like to have that challenge of taking on those kinds of cases and I also believe we have an obligation to serve our communities to the best of our abilities,” he said.

The Ninth Judicial District includes the counties of Orange, Dutchess, Rockland, Westchester and Putnam.

Guertin must be endorsed at an August convention of all county GOP leaders.

Guertin has been city court judge for the last several years. Before that, he served as Middletown corporation counsel.
