TOWN OF WALLKILL – Quarterly test results have found that Town of Wallkill Water District #1 has recently violated a drinking water standard by exceeding the maximum contaminant level for Total Trihalomethanes.

Town Public Works Commissioner Lou Ingrassia, Jr. said there is no immediate risk and the issue is being remediated.

“We are in the bidding process right now to take two or our water tanks out of service, sanitize them, clean them good, repaint them, put them back in service, and that will allow us to turn the water over in a more timely fashion that in the long term should solve this issue,” he said.

An advisory to residents of the water district said the problem does not pose an immediate risk. “However, some people who drink water containing Trihalomethanes in excess of the maximum contaminant level over many years may experience problems with their liver, kidneys, or central nervous system, and may have an increased risk of getting cancer.
