WAWARSING – The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a one-car crash on Berme Road in the Town of Wawarsing that occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 2.

Deputies responding to a 911 call found a 2014 Kia Sol fully engulfed in flames.

They found a semi-conscious woman on the round laying next to the burning vehicle and dragged her to safety. A second occupant was located nearby.

Preliminary investigation suggests the vehicle, operated by a 28-year-old Monticello woman failed to negotiate a curve, left the road and struck a tree.

Both occupants were transported Garnet Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill.

The investigation is continuing; however, no tickets have been issued.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by State Police, Napanoch Fire Department, Kerhonkson/Accord Rescue Squad and Ellenville Rescue Squad.
