POUGHKEEPSIE – A total of 109 employees will lose their jobs when the J.C. Penny store at the Poughkeepsie Galleria closes this fall.

A state labor department advisory said the store in the Town of Poughkeepsie will shut its doors permanently on September 25, a casualty of “unforeseeable business circumstances prompted by COVID-19.”

The employees are not represented by a union.

Shopping centers with stores that only open inside the malls have still not been given the go ahead to reopen, an issue mall operators have been protesting.

The governor recently said he would consider allowing those shopping centers to reopen provided they has special air filtration systems.
