RYE – Westchester County officials have decided to keep Playland Park in Rye closed this summer because of COVID-19.

County Executive George Latimer said even though the county and region are in phase three of reopenng with the virus still upon us, “there was not enough significant improvement to justify what happens when 8,000 people go to one place at one time.”

The park’s regular season opening would have been May 9 this year. Aside from public health concerns, the park faced other factors that impeded preparation for the season, including restrictions on in-person hiring and training due to state on PAUSE guidelines and supply-chain interruptions early on, Lattimer said.

While closed during the warm weather, it will give crews an opportunity to advance some maintenance projects, the county executive said.
