KINGSTON – The Ulster County Justice Reform Committee has begun its work to address what County Executive Patrick Ryan calls “systemic inequity, injustice and racism,” especially in the criminal justice system.

His newly created committee met for the first time on Monday and the county executive said he wants residents to drive the discussion.

“We have to have the work driven by the community. So, we didn’t go too deep into any of the topics (Monday) because we wanted to start with community input,” he said.

That input will take the form of virtual town hall meetings, the first of which will be held on July 22, and a suggestion box, both physically located and online.
