POUGHKEEPSIE – For the first time, Dutchess Community College will offer an online credit-free course in drone operation. This 16-hour course prepares students to take the FAA Part 107 Aeronautical Certification Exam. Drones are becoming invaluable to many businesses, including photography, land surveying, and real estate; hobbyists also can benefit from the course. The Part 107 exam provides a license for commercial-level drone operation.

Classes will be held via Zoom on July 21, 23, 28 and 30 from 5 to 9 p.m. Topics to be covered include federal aviation regulations, aviation weather services, weather effects on performance, loading and performance, radio communications, airport operations, aeronautical decision-making, and maintenance and inspections. Additionally, the course instructor will cover the steps necessary to take the FAA’s certification exam, including registration and payment. The required text for the course is the Gleim Remote Pilot FAA Knowledge Test Prep – 2nd Edition (approximately $25 in the DCC College Bookstore).

The cost of the course is $175. Drone pilots must be at least 16 years old. To register, visit www.sunydutchess.edu and select the “Continuing Education” top menu bar or simply click here. The cost of the course is $175. Email paloma.krakower@sunydutchess.edu for more information.
