NEWBURGH – Students in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District P-Tech program graduating in the Newburgh Free Academy Class of 2020 will earn a high school and associates of applied sciences degree from SUNY Orange.
Alana Harris, 18, of New Windsor and Ameesah Cotton, 17, of the City of Newburgh are among the students concluding their four-year dual education.
The program opened the world up for Harris.
“Because of the P-Tech program I was able to go to Thailand last summer and also I was able to work at IBM, which is really cool – not a lot of people get to say that; even though it was my first summer internship, I think it was really cool that I was able to do that,” she said.
Cotton also enjoyed her IBM internship.
“Being around that environment it’s very responsible and you are surrounded by adults and they expect a lot from you; they expect you to act responsibly and that is uncommon for the average high school student,” she said.
Harris plans to go into the field of cyber-security once she completes her college career. Cotton is planning a career in public health information technology.
