ALBANY – Now that the Hudson Valley is in phase three of the re-opening of the economy, unemployment numbers should start to come down.
They remained high in May, but were lower than April numbers, according to statistics from the state labor department.
Orange County continued to have the highest rate of unemployment in May at 11.9 percent.
That was followed by Westchester County at 11.2 percent.
Rockland, Ulster and Greene counties each recorded 11 percent joblessness rates in May.
Sullivan County had a 10.9 percent rate of unemployment.
Putnam and Dutchess counties each recorded 10.6 percent rates of joblessness.
Columbia County had the lowest rate in the region at 8.1 percent.
