GOSHEN – The temporary holding of Immigration and Customs Enforcement inmates in the Orange County Jail has meant millions of dollars in annual income for the county.
Sheriff Carl DuBois suspended accepting those prisoners as well as those from the US Marshal’s Services when COVID-19 hit earlier this year.
Now, he has resumed the practice.
“We were lucky enough that we had no cases at all in the jail, but now that things seem to have subsided, we are going to return to taking ICE prisoners and Marshal’s Services prisoners, obviously with screening and quarantining,” he said.
DuBois said all along his office has been screening and quarantining all inmates that are committed through the local courts.
