Two killed, nine injured in Ramapo crash

RAMAPO – Two men were killed and nine other people were injured, two critically, when a large van struck a tree off New Hempstead Road near Conway Court in Ramapo late Monday afternoon, Ramapo Police said.

The men, ages 47 and 22, were said to be a man and his son-in-law. They were pronounced dead at Montefiore Nyack Hospital.

The group was on its way to New York City when the accident occurred.

New Hempstead Road was closed for hours as the rescue and investigation continued well into the night.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released.

The crash is under investigation by the Ramapo Police Crash Investigation Unit.

Assisting at the scene were State Police, State Park Police, Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, Hatzolah EMS of Rockland County, Spring Hill Community Ambulance Corps, and Village of New Square EMS.
