Interim general manager named at Stewart Airport

STEWART AIRPORT – An interim general manager has been named at New York Stewart International Airport.

Omar Astacio, a Port Authority staffer at the Newburgh area airport is the interim airport manager, according to a spokeswoman. He replaced Ed Harrison, the general manager who retired earlier this year.

Also at Stewart, construction continues on the international arrivals building that is connected to the airport passenger terminal. It is expected to be completed later this year.

Rick Cotton, the Port Authority’s executive director, said Wednesday that system-wide, air travel declined 95 percent because of COVID-19.

How soon and at what level will it rebound remains to be seen.
