Man charged with DWI after car crashes into restaurant

HIGHLAND – A 47-year-old Highland man was charged with driving while intoxicated Sunday night after the car he was driving on South Street in the Town of Lloyd crashed through the front room of the Gunk Haus Restaurant, which caught fire, causing extensive damage to the eatery.

Lloyd Town Police said William Judge was driving a 2019 Subaru at around 9:40 p.m. when he lost control and crashed into the restaurant, which was closed at the time.

Judge was along in the car. He was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie by New Paltz Rescue Squad where he was treated for facial and hand injuries.

Judge was released on an appearance ticket returnable to Lloyd Town Court.

Town Police were assisted by State Police, Clintondale and Highland fire departments and New Paltz Rescue Squad.
