MONTICELLO – Several Monticello residents picketed in front of Village Mayor Gary Sommers’ downtown business on Thursday, calling for him to terminate village DPW supervisor Ray Jones.

Jones, though, talked to Sommers earlier on Thursday and told him he would resign.

Prior to Jones’ resignation, the mayor cited the need to follow union procedures before he could take any action against him.

Jones was video recorded by a third village worker using the “n” word while talking to another village worker in mid-May.

Earlier in the day, people picketed at the mayor’s shop calling on his to fire the supervisor
