BROOKLYN – Two sisters from Greene County are under arrest for allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at a New York City Police vehicle Friday night during rioting over the death of George Floyd, who was killed by a Minneapolis cop earlier in the week.

Rioting and looting has been occurring every night since then in major cities around the country following the white former officer’s murder of the black man, who had been handcuffed and placed face down on the street.

Samantha Shader, 27, of Catskill has been charged with attempted murder, attempted arson, possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment for allegedly throwing the firebomb at the police vehicle, which burst into flames. The four officers inside were able to escape.

Shader’s sister, Darian, 21, also of Catskill, was charged with resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration.

New York City officials said the two women were in New York with the intent of spreading chaos.  The defendants are due to appear in federal court on Monday, June 1.
