WHITE PLAINS – A substitute teacher at White Plains High School has been charged with stalking one of his students via online messaging.

Craig Rosenberg, 56, of Irvington was arraigned on a charge of stalking as a misdemeanor and released pending a future court appearance.

He resigned earlier as a per diem substitute teacher.

The complaint alleges that while schools are closed due to COVID-19, Rosenberg began to send text messages and direct messages to students via Instagram and a student application. He also began to send non-school-related messages to a 17-year-old student. Those messages made the student uncomfortable.

With the support of the student’s parents, the student told Rosenberg to stop and blocked him on all media. The family contacted White Plains Police who notified Rosenberg to stop communications with the student.

They also reported the teacher to high school officials. The school district also contacted the police.

After being blocked, Rosenberg continued to try to learn more about the targeted student by reaching out to other students who were friends with the victim and asking them to pass his messages along to the victim.

White Plains Police arrested him on Wednesday night, May 27.
