LaGrange man charged in assault on baby

POUGHKEEPSIE – A LaGrange man has been arrested following a week-long investigation into the injury of a one-month-old baby.

The investigation was conducted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau in conjunction with the Child Advocacy Center.

Vasileios Papaemmanouil, 23, of LaGrange was arrested on Friday, May 22, accused of causing serious injuries to the child while it was in his care on May 14.  Police did not say if the baby was a boy or girl. It suffered head, eye, and rib injuries and as of Monday continues to be hospitalized at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Papaemmanouil has been charged with felony reckless assault of a child and a misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

The investigation is continuing.
