VENICE, FLORIDA – A Venice, Florida woman was arrested for allegedly stealing a Class of 1955 West Point ring from the personal belongings of a man who died while living at a senior living facility in Venice.

The man died in March and through an investigation, it was discovered the ring had been pawned in May 2018 at Quick Draw Quality in Venice by Carlee Marie Smith. She listed the senior living facility as her employer on the information form.

The ring changed hands three times between Venice, New York, and St. Petersburg before a Venice detective was able to locate it and made arrangements to return the family heirloom to the victim’s relatives.

In April of this year, a judge signed an arrest warrant for Smith on a charge of grand theft, false ownership information to a pawnbroker and dealing in stolen property. She was committed to the Manatee County Jail.
