POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Memorial Day parade traveled across the county on Monday. County Executive Marcus Molinaro wanted to bring the annual event for the nation’s “most solemn day” to the public given the restrictions for large gatherings because of COVID-19.
“Under the circumstances, we needed to find a way to bring the importance of this holiday to as many communities as we can,” he said. “The fact that we may not be able to gather together in a large group doesn’t mean we can’t take the message to communities and front porches across Dutchess County,” he said.

Fire departments, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, other police and military vehicles participated in the three-hour drive-by parade as it passed through Wappinger on Route 9.
Greek Orthodox Father Jason Dickey of Poughkeepsie, an Army veteran, gave the blessing at the county war memorial at the start of the parade.
