Orangetown Police Chief Donald Butterworth discusses Friday morning's homicide in Nyack

NYACK – A man who was shot in the back in Nyack at mid-morning Friday has died and Orangetown Police are looking for a suspect.

Police Chief Donald Butterworth said the man was shot several times shortly after 10 a.m. He was transported to Montefiore Nyack Hospital where he later died.

The victim was only identified by the chief as a 30-year-old Nyack resident.

Butterworth and Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Walsh said the case is under investigation.

Police radio reports shortly after the shooting said the victim had been shot in the back on South Midland Avenue near Main Street and that police were looking for a suspect driving a silver or gold Toyota Camry.

Nyack Mayor Don Hammond said it was a sad day for the village.
