ELLENVILLE – A 37-year-old Ellenville man was committed to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail following an incident with police early Thursday.

An Ellenville officer spotted a vehicle operating erratically going down Center Street in the village at around 2:45 a.m. The car was found on the dead-end section of Mill Street where it had crashed into a parked vehicle, causing extensive damage.

The driver had ducked down in the driver’s seat. The officer radioed for backup and police from Ellenville and State Police arrived.

Sergio Ulysse

The man, later identified as Sergio Ulysse refused several orders to get out of his car and when the officers approached, he became combative striking officers in the face several times and at one point, striking the trooper causing a laceration to his eye.

While a taser was being deployed, Ulysse tried to take it out of the officer’s hand and use it against him but failed to do so.

He was eventually subdued and taken into custody.

The two officers were treated at Ellenville Regional Hospital.

Ulysse was charged with three counts of attempted assault on a police officer, attempted criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and DWI.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
