KINGSTON – A Kingston woman was found dead following a house fire in the city late Wednesday night.

City firefighters were dispatched to 77 Abruyn Street for reports of a fire in the basement at 10:52 p.m. Responding personnel encountered smoke showing from the front of the building and additional heavy smoke coming from an apartment in the rear of the multi-family structure.

Firefighters made entrance to the rear basement apartment and worked to knock down the fire and search for occupants.  Firefighters recovered a female victim from the apartment and removed her from the building.  The unidentified woman has been pronounced dead.  An occupant of another apartment in the building was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Deputy Fire Chief Wayne Platte said that the fire went to a 3rd alarm with Ulster Hose assisting at the scene while other departments relocated to provide coverage.  Mobile Life Support Services were on scene along with Central Hudson Gas & Electric.
Three of the four apartments have been deemed uninhabitable.
Kingston firefighters were back in service at 2:34 a.m. today.
