POUGHKEEPSIE – Several residents of the three buildings destroyed by fire on Duane Street in the City of Poughkeepsie Tuesday night are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Three homes and several garages behind them went up in flames leaving several people homeless and Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison told a virtual meeting of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday that displaced residents were given immediate aid.

“They were assisting nine people essentially at this point but they believe it will grow because other buildings, not directly impacted by the fire are probably not going to be able to get back into for quite some time,” he said.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury during the firefighting operations and the cause of the fire, believed to be accidental, remains under investigation.
