WHITE PLAINS – Stop & Shop supermarkets has provided over 16 tons of food to assist the Westchester County community impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The $55,000 donation included rice, canned vegetables, tomato sauce, shelf-stable milk, cereal, soups, pasta meals, peanut butter, beans, potatoes, and mac and cheese.

The food was donated to the “Feeding Westchester” effort in their mission to serve those in need.

“For many people in Westchester, the crisis has left them food insecure. That’s not something we can fix with a vaccine and we won’t need a test to know that it’s there,” said Matt Honeycutt, Feeding Westchester vice president of development. “Generous food donations, like this one from Stop & Shop, helps Feeding Westchester as we continue to work to meet the needs of the countless local families upended by this crisis.”

Before the pandemic struck, 200,000 people in Westchester were in need of assistance but that need has now more than doubled to a half-million people, Honeycutt said.
