Liberty man arrested in shooting

LIBERTY – A suspect is in the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of high bail in connection with a Village of Liberty shooting on Sunday, May 10.

A 34-year old man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg while at the Knight’s Inn Hotel. He was treated by Mobile Medic ambulance and airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Investigation led to the arrest of Tyrell Chandler, 30, in a residence in the Town of Fallsburg on Monday.

He was charged with assault, attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, all as felonies.

Chandler was arraigned virtually by Sullivan County Court Judge James Farrell and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $75,000 bail or $150,000 bond.

Village of Liberty Police were assisted by Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, State Police, Monticello Village Police, Fallsburg Town Police and the K-9 Unit of the State Department of Environmental Conservation.
