Ellenville man charged with armed gas station robbery

ELLENVILLE – An Ellenville man is in the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond following his arrest in connection with an armed robbery at the Valero gas station on Route 209 in the Village of Ellenville.

It is alleged that the suspect walked into the store at around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 10, bought some beer and after paying the cashier, went around the counter and pointed what was believed to be a semi-automatic handgun in the clerk’s face and demanded cash and other property be placed in a backpack he was carrying.

He fled on foot and an intensive search by village police, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and their K-9, and State Police, but he could not be located.

Within eight hours of the crime, the suspect was identified as Aaron Younger, 41, and on Tuesday, May 12 at around 3:30 p.m., he was arrested when police executed a no-knock search warrant at his apartment at 5 Bloomer Street.

Police seized evidence connecting him to the robbery.

Younger was subsequently charged with armed robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.

The investigation that led to his arrest involved Ellenville Police, Ulster County Sheriff’s and District Attorney’s Offices, URGENT, and the county Emergency Response Team.
