ELLENVILLE – Police in the Village of Ellenville are investigating a series of vehicle larcenies that occurred during the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 5.

The investigation revealed two male suspects were entering unlocked vehicles and stealing valuable property they could find.

Police said they have been identified and are currently being sought.

Chief Philip Mattracion reminded residents to lock their cars and double check to make sure they are secured.

“This type of offense is a crime of opportunity and are a direct fallout from the ongoing pandemic we are currently facing. We take these crimes very seriously, any crime, particularly property crimes against residents will not be tolerated,” the chief said.

Mattracion said residents should call the police if they see anything they think is suspicious. “Nothing is a waste of time. I would rather have the patrols respond 100 times and find nothing than to not be called and have something happen that could be prevented.”
