COXSACKIE – A 34-year-old Queens man was remanded to the Greene County Jail in lieu of bail following his arrest on felony drug and gun possession charges.
At around 3 p.m. on May 2, State Police attempted to stop a late model Honda Accord speeding on the Thruway in Coxsackie.
The driver, later identified as Shavar Campbell of Cambria Heights exited the Thruway at the Coxsackie exit and jumped from the passenger side door while the car was still in motion. The unoccupied car struck a guide rail.
Campbell approached the trooper where a struggle began and he started to flee on foot when the trooper deployed a taser to eventually take him into custody.
Further investigation revealed a loaded .357 magnum pistol, which was later confirmed stolen, some 44 grams of crack cocaine, and nearly two ounces of marijuana, located inside the car. Campbell was also found in possession of razor blades while being taken into custody.
He was treated at Albany Medical Center for minor injuries and when released, charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal use of drug paraphernalia, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
Following arraignment via Skype in Coxsackie Town Court, Campbell was remanded to Greene County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
