POUGHKEEPSIE – Hudson River Housing’s newest affordable housing development, FallKill Commons on Rose, is now being occupied.
The Poughkeepsie facility has apartments for 78 people with 39 units set aside for individuals experiencing homelessness and who will receive supportive services to help them live successful and independent lives.
The development is part of Hudson River Housing’s Middle Main Initiative in downtown Poughkeepsie and is located one block away from the organization’s Poughkeepsie Underwear Factory, another affordable housing facility.
Despite the development of those two complexes and others in the city, Hudson River Housing’s Executive Director Christa Hines said there never appears to be enough affordable housing for those in need.
“Unfortunately, we are seeing such a demand; especially lately we are seeing even more, and our fear is as we go through this situation we are in, it is only going to get worse. We realize that we are needed more than ever and we are going to be busy, for sure,” she said.
Financing for FallKill Commons on Rose includes federal low-income housing tax credits that generated $16.4 million in equity and an additional $2.7 million in subsidy from New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority provided $67,800. The Community Preservation Corporation provided $1.9 million with additional financing from grants from the Dutchess County HOME program and NeighborWorks.
