Poughkeepsie police nab three after responding to a 911 hang-up call

POUGHKEEPSIE – City police responded to a reported robbery at gunpoint at 6 Hooker Avenue in Poughkeepsie at 3:05 Monday morning.  Officers investigated the scene and a police K9 tracked a potential suspect to South Clinton Street.

As the officer and his K9 partner were tracking the suspect in the vicinity of South Clinton Street, 911 dispatch received a call from 53 South Clinton.  The caller immediately hung up when the dispatcher answered.  

Officers, including the K9, approached that address and observed a man later identified as Richard Johannes, 23, inside the first-floor apartment at 53 South Clinton.  Johannes was wanted by police for numerous active warrants for crimes including felony robbery.

Johannes and two other individuals were taken into custody following the investigation conducted by detectives and uniformed officers.  Johannes was taken into custody and charged with armed robbery along with his active warrants.

Nijulon Smith, 21, was arrested and charged with armed robbery while 19-year-old D’Shaun Douglas was arrested on charges of armed robbery and criminal possession of stolen property.

All three individuals were arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.
