ALBANY – As more and more out-of-work people are relying on food banks to fill in the gaps in their grocery shopping because of the pandemic, those facilities around the state are running short of supplies.

To help them fill their shelves to assist those in need, Governor Cuomo, Monday, announced $25 million in emergency funding to assist the food banks restock.

“Two hundred percent increase in Westchester; 100 percent increase in New York City; 40 percent on Long Island; 40-60 percent across upstate New York, so we are going to commit $25 million for emergency funding for those food banks and I am also asking philanthropies to help,” he said.

The governor also said some upstate farm cooperatives are dumping milk because of the weak market, so he wants to connect them with the downstate market where there is need for dairy products.
