ALBANY – Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s comment that states might consider filing for bankruptcy drew fire from Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Thursday.

Cuomo called the statement “dumb” and suggested McConnell’s remark was aimed at Democrat states.

“I mean, for crying out loud, if there was ever a time for you to put aside your pettiness and your partisanship and this political lens you see the world through – Democrat and Republican and we help Republicans but we don’t help Democrats – that’s not who we are; that’s not who we are as a people. If there ever is a time for humanity and decency, now is the time,” Cuomo said.

Fellow Democrat, Hudson Valley Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney called McConnell’s comment was “a dumb thing to say.”
