Mid-Hudson News has launched a “Student Journalist” section to allow elementary, middle, and high-school students to write essays or “news as they see it” for submission.  The following is an essay from one of our “Student Journalists”, Sanaiya Whitted.

Being quarantined because of COVID-19 has affected my life in so many ways. I have not been able to see my friends/family, play sports, or go to school. Once the quarantine is over I want to do a lot of things like see my friends and family, play sports, and go to school if it is in session, but the one thing that I really want to do when quarantine is lifted is travel with my family. I have traveled with my family in the past and we have been to many places. I have been to twelve out of fifty states. I enjoy seeing my family that lives out of state, spending time with my mom and my sister, and doing different activities depending on where we are. When the quarantine is lifted the first place that I want to go to is to North Carolina to visit my family.

The reason why I want to visit family is that the quarantine has made me feel grateful for times spent with family and friends because I am unable to visit anyone during this time. When I go to North Carolina I would like to go to the beach. I love the beach because of the waves in the water and the sand is soft. If I go to the beach I would like to soak in the hot sun, go in the water with my boogie board and ride the waves with my sister and cousins. I am going to take lots of pictures with my family to capture memories. We also like playing games, having conversations, barbecuing, watching TV, eating the best chicken and waffles, and seeing the historical sites. My cousins are older than me but I can relate to them well. We play iMessage games against one another, joke around, take walks, play basketball, and best of all, go out to eat.

Traveling is relaxing because I can get a break from my everyday life, so when this is over I hope I can go to North Carolina to be in a different environment. Traveling will help me get out of the house, lounge around with family, and not have to worry about a schedule for my day.
