Former fire chief, wife, daughter, all die from COVID-19

PIERMONT – A Former fire chief of the Central Nyack Fire Department, his wife and daughter all succumbed to the coronavirus this month.

Charles Bullock, 80, died on April 20, days after his wife, Lois and their daughter, Chanda, both passed away from the virus.

Bullock was a star athlete at Tappan Zee High School in the Class of 1958, a stand-out in both football and basketball.

He was inducted into the high school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012 and earned All-County honors in both sports.

After joining the Central Nyack Fire Department in 1968, he served as fire department chief in 1978 and 1979, serving more than 50 years.

He became a Clarkstown police officer in 1965 before joining the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police. When the New York section of the parkway was taken over by the state, he became a New York State trooper.

Lois, who was an employee of the Nyack School District and for 23 years served as a teaching assistant at Liberty Elementary School in Valley Cottage, died on April 4.

Their daughter, Chandra, a healthcare social worker, also passed this month, another victim of COVID-19.

On Tuesday evening, the Piermont Police and Fire departments held a drive-by tribute to honor the family and also celebrate the Bullocks’ granddaughter’s birthday.
