ELLENVILLE – One of the two COVID-19 drive-through testing sites that Ulster County set up recently has already been closed.

The first site, at Tech City in the Town of Ulster, continues to have a substantial number of people coming in for testing.

The other site in Ellenville, not far from Ellenville Regional Hospital, was opened after the Tech City location, but has been closed already because “it did not gain traction,” said Daniel Torres, County Executive Patrick Ryan’s chief of staff.

The closest other locations are in Dutchess County and on the Orange-Rockland County border.

The drive-through locations are designed to take specimen samples from people who up in their vehicles and then leave immediately thereafter.
