MIDDLETOWN – Full-time students attending SUNY Orange in the fall will be paying 3.7 percent more for tuition. The college board of trustees on Wednesday voted to raise tuition by $192 per year to $5,376. Student fees will also increase, from $604 a year to $718.

Even with the increased tuition, the college is anticipating a $1.5 million cash shortfall.

President Dr. Kristine Young said that could be closed by increased student enrollment as well as some belt-tightening.

“We do have some positions that were left vacant this year. That would probably be the first place that we would look at the positions that we did without in the current year and ask ourselves can we do without them next year. So that would be, probably our favored way to closing the gap in the other direction in addition to other savings on things like paper and travel,” she said.

The trustees will vote on the budget for the new academic year when they meet next month.
