ALBANY – Governor Andrew Cuomo today (Thursday) extended the closure of non-essential businesses and schools for another two weeks. It was due to expire on April 29, but he has now extended it to May 15.
He also expounded on his mandate for all persons in public to wear face coverings by saying anyone on a public or private bus must wear a mask and drivers of private transportation services must also keep their faces covered. “Wearing a mask is the best thing you can do,” the governor said. That all takes effect at 8 p.m. on Friday.
Cuomo also said the federal government must step in to fund state and local governments to cover their financial losses. The previous stimulus bill did nothing for New York, he said. “They are starving state and local governments,” the governor said.
The governor said the crisis will be over when a vaccine is found and that could take 18 months.
