NEWBURGH – Robert McLymore is a native of Newburgh and a senior pastor in the city. He is also a lieutenant in the Town of Wallkill Police Department.

He sees both jobs as complimenting one another in his goal to bring all segments of society together to curb crime.

McLymore recently brought together a group of long-time Newburgh residents, police, community leaders and a representative of the attorney general’s office and they want to go right to the source of much of the violence.

“We want to make sure that we reach out to these people, to these leaders of the gangs, and come to some type of resolution to try to lessen the violence between gang members and also try to get the community to see that working hand in hand with the police department is a necessity for a better community as well,” he said.

Resolution will be “a challenge,” but McLymore believes change for the better is possible.
