Ellenville Police investigate robbery-assault

ELLENVILLE – Police are investigating a robbery and assault at Liberty Tools on Route 209 in the Village of Ellenville.

The incident occurred around 10:50 a.m. on Friday, April 10.

The clerk told police that a man walked into the business, engaged him in conversation and then grabbed him from behind, choked and assaulted him.

The suspect was scared off by another customer who was coming into the business.

The suspect fled and got into a waiting older model Dodge Grand Caravan last seen heading south on Route 209.

The robber is described as a white man, about five-feet, 10-inches tall, thin build, wearing dark clothing, black knit hat and a black wool ski mask.

The vehicle is believed to be dark green or blue with gold New York plates. It had rust along the bottom of the driver’s side.

Ellenville Police are being assisted in the investigation by the State Police BCI and uniformed members from the Wawarsing barracks, detectives, K-9, and uniformed members of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
