CHELSEA – The Chelsea Fire Department took the Easter Bunny for a ride through the district on Saturday to provide some joy to the residents during the pandemic.

The department was forced to cancel their annual Easter egg hunt due to COVID-19, and came up with the alternative plan to bring Easter to their neighbors.

The Chelsea fire department covers an eight square mile district in portions of the towns of Fishkill and Wappinger.

Fire Chief Ken Schirmer said the Easter Bunny was cheered on by the bystanders and put smiles on everyone’s faces.

“It is important to bring joy to the community, especially in these times dealing with the effects of the coronavirus,” said Schirmer.

Port Jervis Mayor Kelly Decker celebrates Easter with the Bunny and volunteers on Friday.
