KINGSTON – Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster took its food pantry on the road to deliver supplies to homebound senior citizens at the Ellenville Senior Housing Complex.

The delivery van, dubbed “Charity on Wheels,” was packed full of prepared food bags to help restock the cupboards for the residents of the 30-unit complex. Each package included non-perishable food items, grains, protein, fresh vegetables, and personal care items.

“The need to socially distance has made basic life tasks difficult for all of us,” said Dominique Mills, Ulster County regional supervisor for Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster. “Activities like grocery shopping are especially challenging for our senior citizens who are at greater risk right now. Prepared with the appropriate protective equipment and cleansing supplies, Catholic Charities is able to bring food to our older neighbors so that they may stay safe at home.”

Catholic Charities will be coordinating food deliveries to low-income senior housing facilities in Ulster County each Monday. For information about upcoming delivery schedules and locations, contact Ms. Mills at 845.340.9170 x3025 or dominique.mills@cccsos.org.

The Catholic Charities Food Pantry is continuing to provide pre-bagged food packages from its location at the Catholic Charities Ulster Community Center at 6 Adams Street, Kingston. Food is distributed between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. each Tuesday and Friday through the double-door vestibule at the rear of the building.

“With children home from school and more people out of work as the requirement to isolate continues on, the requests for assistance from our food pantry have sky-rocketed,” said Mills. “For those who are able, we are grateful for financial assistance so we may keep helping our neighbors in need. For those who are struggling with food insecurity, I encourage them to contact us.”

Those in need of assistance in Ulster County should contact Catholic Charities at 845-340-9170, ext. 3025 or email ccosuhelpline@cccsos.org. Monetary donations may be made securely online at www.cccsos.org or by mailing to Catholic Charities Food Pantry, 6 Adams Street, Kingston, NY 12401.
