ALBANY – State Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh) is calling on the state Department of Corrections and Community Service to provide protections to prevent the rapid spread of COVID-19 among corrections officers and inmates.
Jacobson said protective items for officers are in short supply.
“It’s the state’s responsibility to supply corrections officers with masks, gloves and any other personal protective equipment that’s necessary,” he said. “Concerning the inmates, nothing has changed with the way they are being treated as far as with communal and group meals. Social distancing has not been followed.”
Corrections officers told Mid-Hudson News that the only hand sanitizer in Mid-Hudson Valley state prisons is at the main gate.
