TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess Community College students enrolled in various courses with a service-learning component will offer free online workshops beginning this week for children in pre-Kindergarten through fourth grade. The initiative is designed as a community service, to help families supplement at-home learning while social distancing measures remain in effect.

The first 30-minute workshop will take place on April 9 at noon, and additional sessions are scheduled for each subsequent Thursday through the first week of May. More programs may be added depending on demand. The subject matter for the sessions will vary from storytelling to science and more and will be hosted by DCC students with support from Service Learning staff.

There is a limit of 96 registrations per session, but multiple children in a home can sign up for one workshop. Parents may register their child by visiting www.sunydutchess.edu/remoteworkshops.

Service-learning is an initiative that enhances classroom teaching with real-world experience. Since 2015, more than 3,000 DCC students have provided almost 35,000 hours of service to 85 local nonprofit agencies.
